ABOUT THE WORK

I've witnessed as the detrimental and seemingly insurmountable effects of plastic pollution have become more evident in recent years. Through social media I have seen how plastic is filling our beaches, rivers, and even our own bodies.  This has lead me to develop feelings of fear and personal guilt about my own part to play in this, through my own existence in this plastic dependent modern way of life.  I express these feelings by my use of plastic items from my daily life, discarded electronics and recycled plastic granules in my work. These are mounted on layered panels whose shapes are inspired by coastlines, places where nature and the human world collide and then seemingly part ways. I then contrast these textures and rise in elevation by layering vibrant colors on the lower panel that represent my hope for a future when these fears and problems will be a thing of the past.
